Your Free WordPress Theme Are not secure! Beware

By Khai Missiri On June 15, 2010 Under Blogging Tips

Have you ever wondered why so a lot of free wordpress theme that can be downloaded easy out there. Moreover Elegant theme that should be paid for use also can be found free. I also have downloaded many free themes provided by blogger out there. But today, I start thinking the benefit that they can earn. Here are the odds that I can think of.

1. They will get free backlink from our site.

2. Theme provided with codes that may be dangerous.

For the first point is not a matter. Theme creator can get free backlink from our blog as a sign of our appreciation for using their theme.

But, for the point number two, is the most significant and will be a big problem with you if you a not careful. Sometime, free theme or premium theme but can be found free are contain “inject-code” or “redirect-code” that can be harmful not only to your blog, but to the blog visitors also.

Usually “inject-code” will inject a virus, or spyware into computers of visitors. This is very dangerous. One day, maybe your blog will be flag as spyware blog from Google or other search engine site.

“Redirect-code” is function to send visitors of your blog to a specified URL. This can be considered as a technique to steal traffic. Whether stolen half of your traffic or all of your traffic is dependent on the stolen code is.

How to solve this problem?

It’s easy.  First you need to install the TAC plugins to your blog. This TAC plugins as to check your theme whether it is safe to use or not. This plugins will check all the source code for the theme, whether in the form of JavaScript and others.

To install this TAC plugins is easy. You can get it through the Plugins page in your WordPress blog by using search keywords “TAC” or even download the plugins direct from developer website at http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/tac/ and use FTP program to upload that plugins to your hosting. Then go to your wordpress admin panel and activate the plugins.

You can find the TAC option under the appearance menu. When you have found the code that is not desired, you can simply remove it. Thats all.
